How to make Samosa (Potato Samosa)

Samosa is a very popular street food in India and can be easily found in any sweet shop. Making Traditional samosa at home is very easy. If you follow the cooking instruction given below, you can make Delicious samosa at home. And I promise your child will lot Samosa more that the street one.

  • Preparation Time – 20 Mins
  • Cooking Time -40 Mins
  • Serves person – 3-4

Ingredients

 

1  Maida/ Refined Flour  200 Gram
2  Ajwain (carom) seeds ½ Tablespoon
3  Jeera/Cumin seeds ½ Tablespoon
4  Salt  As per taste
5  Boiled Potatoes 4 piece
7  Coriander powder ½ Tablespoon
8  Amchur/Dry Mango Powder ½ Tablespoon
9  Garam masala 1 Tablespoon
10  Red chilli powder ½ Tablespoon
11  Green Coriander leaves  ½ Tablespoon
12  Oil  500 ml

Recipe Method

Step 1- In a bowl mix together all purpose flour, salt and oil nicely with your fingertips. The flour should be well mixed with the oil.

Step 2 – Now add water and make a thick dough.

Step 3 – Cover it with a damp cloth (to prevent it from drying) and let the dough rest for 20 minutes. In the meantime  we will prepare the stuffing.

Step 4 –  Boil the potatoes and  peel the skin and cut it into cubes or mash it slightly.Heat oil in a Kadai/Pan, add Jeera  seeds, when it sizzles, add Onions,and saute until Onions turn transparent. Then add Coriander powder, Chilli  powder, Amchur powder, Garam masala  and  salt needed. Mix well, cook for 2-3 minutes.

Step 5 –  Now we will proceed  to prepare the samosa – Make balls from the dough depending on the size of samosa needed. If you want a small samosa, make a  small  ball and a slightly bigger ball for a bigger samosa.

Step 6 –  Now take a ball of dough and roll it out very thinly and cut into half. Now wet the straight side with a little water  using your fingertips.

Step 7 –  Fold it in such a way that you get a cone First bring one edge to the centre, then bring the other  and place  it  overlapping the first. Now you will get a cone. Fill the cone with potato stuffing. stick together and fold it. If  there is excess length at the back, you can make a pleat  and then fold it to form a triangle. Make it sit and  shape it nicely. You can make a design using a fork.

Step 8 –  Now heat oil in a kadhai .To check if the oil is hot enough, drop a small piece of dough into the oil, if it raises to  the surface immediately, then the oil is hot enough to fry the samosa. Now reduce the flame to medium and  maintain the same oil temperature throughout frying. Drop 2-3 samosa into the oil gently and fry both sides until golden Brown.

Samosa is ready, serve it with green chutney/Tomato Ketchup.
