Toor Dal is a most Popular Dal in India.This Dal is a many different Name like Toor  Dal, Arhar  Dal, Yellow (peeli Dal) and Pigeon Peas in English.Toor Dal is a very simple and nutritious Dal. This Dal is usually served with Chapatti and Rice. I like to eat Dal with Rice.

Ingredients
  • 4 tbsp Butter/Ghee
  • 150 gram Arhar dal or Toor dal
  • 1 tbsp Turmeric powder (haldi)
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tbsp red chilli p
  • 1 tbsp Cumin seeds(jeera)
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 piece onion chooped
  • 1 piece tomato chopped
  • 2 pieces green chilli chopped
  • 1 pinch Hinge/Asafoetida
  • 2 pieces Dry red chilli

Instructions
  1. Put the washed Arhar dal + Water + turmeric powder + salt in a pressure cooker, 2 to 3 whistle on low flame to boil. Once boiled keep aside.

  2. Heat ghee in a kadhai add cumin seeds Hinge/Asafoetida and saute for 30 sec. Then add chopped Onion + chopped green chilli and Cook till Onion are soft and light pink in colour.

  3. Add chopped tomato + Red Chilli powder + Coriander powder + Turmeric powder mix.cook till Tomatoes are soft.

  4. Then add boiled Dal and 2 cups of water. Mix well and bring it to a boil. Then let it simmer for 5 minutes. Then turn off the stove.

Recipe Notes

Arhar dal is ready to Garnish it with chopped Green coriander and serves it with Rice/Roti
