The Panchratan name is driven from the "Sanskrit" language "Panch" means Five and "Ratan" means Jems . Though you can mix as much as Dal you want but traditionally the Panchratan dal is prepared using Moong, Chana, Urad, Arhar/Toor, Masoor Dal.

Ingredients
  • 4 tbsp Butter/Ghee
  • 25 gram Moong dal(green gram)
  • 25 gram Urad dal(black gram)
  • 25 gram channa dal(bengal gram
  • 25 gram Toor dal (pigeon peas)
  • 25 gram masoor dal (pink lentil)
  • 1 tbsp Cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 1 tbsp Turmeric powder (haldi)
  • 1 pieces onion chopped
  • 1 pieces tomato chopped
  • 2 pieces green chilli Chopped
  • 1/2 tbsp green coriander Chopped
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 150 ml Water for mixing in dal

Instructions
  1. Take a bowl, add mix Dal and wash properly using drinking water

  2. Put the washed mix dals + Water + turmeric powder + salt in a pressure cooker, 2 to 3 whistle on low flame to boil. Once boiled keep aside.

  3. Heat ghee in a kadhai add cumin seeds Hinge/Asafoetida and saute for 30 sec.

  4. Now add chopped green chilli and onion and saute until they turn transparent.

  5. Add chopped tomato and saute again for a minute to turn glossy.

  6. Add boiled dal and mix it well + water and boil on medium flame for 1 to 2 minutes.

Serve Panchratan or Mix dal hot with Roti/Naan or Rice...
